Success Story: Tamara

Dear Peter,

I have been meaning to call, and the days just keep slipping by, which is what happens when one finds "satisfying work in a topsy-turvy world."

I wanted to let you know that I have been at my new. permanent job -- the one that brings a smile to my face every morning, and throughout the day -- since January 22nd, the day after my last day in my temp position with Multnomah County. My new position hits on every point of my compass (which I have framed), including my "ideal" salary. I thank the universe, and you, about a hundred times every day.

I am a Program Manager with the Oregon Center for Nursing. We research, advocate, and strategies with other nursing organizations, health care organizations and systems, and policy-makers to solve the nursing shortage in Oregon. Interestingly, back in 1994, when I decided it was time to pursue my formal education, my aim was to become a nurse. Well, after two years of prep work and half-way through my first semester in the nursing program, I decided that nursing wasn't for me, so I didn't return to the program after that first semester was complete. My brief foray into the world of nursing comes in handy now, as does all of my academic background.

Peter, thank you for your support, encouragement, words of wisdom, and just listening while I was struggling to make sense of all that I wanted in and from the working world. Not only did I land my dream job (for the next few years at least!), I also re-discovered and discovered some other passions that I now pursue in my spare time.

With your assistance, I learned how to figure out what type of work brings me joy, used my gifts and education, and lets me be of service to others in many ways. I set my sights on what I wanted, persisted, and the outcome was more than I dreamed it would be.

I will never forget the CareerMakers process. I make it a point to share many of your book's ideas with others I know who are dissatisfied with their present work, struggling to figure out what they want, or are just plain scared to dare to dream of something different.

Mow that life has stabilized for me, I can actively pursue some of my other dreams that surfaced during my discovery process -- writing a book, planning and conducting workshops to help others improve their lives, learning to garden organically, and much more!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Peter. You are and amazing man. Keep up the good work!

Warmest regards,

Tamara
