The Most Significant Thing I Learned at CareerMakers

The program changed my perspective on job hunting: I now will hire my next job-not the other way around.

I learned to make my interests/values/skills the CENTER of my vocation search. I'm finding that the word "job" does not appeal to me any more.

I learned how to network-finally. I knew something was wrong with the way I was going about it. CareerMakers showed me my mistakes. I will be more effective.

I learned to:

The gracious networking and researching concepts:

  1. The New Way methods make sense. From a practical standpoint, it works.

I learned there is a significant difference between going after a specific job and going after information that will help me find the perfect job.

I learned to honor myself.

I learned how important my Compass is to the process. This tool helps keep me on track with my search and helps me make career decisions.

I learned that I did not know as much as I thought I knew about the job search process.

I learned that I talked way too much in job interviews. The skill stories help me to stay on track and be concise.

I learned that I am not alone at this miserable time in my life-and that there are people here who understand what I'm going through.

I learned that the CareerMakers process allows me to be more in control and provides connections to people will support me in my search.

I learned that networking is the vital force in obtaining the job I want. And, I now know how to do it right.

The video interviews almost killed me. But, I learned why I was always coming in second-I could not specify what set me apart from others. Now, with skill stories, I can.

I learned that I can create my own job by writing a proposal. I never thought of such a thing before.
