Success Story: Jacques Tournier

Snow covered mountain

After leaving CareerMakers, I struck out on a quest of informational interviews. At the same time, I applied the traditional approach. Both combined into a job with a local company, and it certainly met with some of my hot buttons, at first. After a wild and short ride, I was off to another company.

Two years and Y2K issues later, the path I was going down and the company's path had spilt apart. Back to the phone, informational interviews and the head hunters (I still hear drums in the distance). Information Tech (IT) was still hot so finding a "new and better" job was just a hop, skip and jump away (moose head included).

It really was a great job. Great boss and all the creative projects I could want. Heck, I even joined a rock and roll band. Can we say DOT.COM?

I joined the ranks of the 1000s (along with my boss) collecting unenjoyment and reassessing career strategies. I had all the time I needed to re-invest my career while waiting for the decision on extended unemployment. Now I've joined a much smaller rank of folks consulting.

Talk about needing the skills learned from CareerMakers, I'm doing what I love to do. Its not 100% and there is a lot of uncertainty, but it's a whole lot closer to the mark. The nice thing (after all the changes) is that in my house (purchased it between jobs #1 and #2), there is a corner where I've put the piano that looks ever so much like a drawing I did for the class.

It even includes a snow-covered mountain in the view.
